FAQs
What are the best ways to protect my family from COVID if I haven’t had a vaccine?
The best protection for your family is for them to be vaccinated so that you are less likely to get them sick if you get infected. As of July, 2021, 90% of new infections are happening in families of unvaccinated people. One family member brings the infection home, then the rest get infected. If you and your family are not vaccinated, then Social distance, stay indoors away from other family who aren’t vaccinated or if you don’t know their vaccination status. If you need to be around family wear a N95 mask.
How is the medical community tracking and researching side effects of the vaccines?
The CDC coordinates a Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS). Providers across the United States are required to report every time they see a possible side effect in a person they are seeing. Researchers study this information to find trends or patterns. This is how we identified the side effects described in the next FAQ. As long as the vaccines are given, the CDC will collect this information so we learn more over the coming months and years.
What are the long-term effects of COVID-19?
Each week that passes we learn more about the middle and long term effects of surviving COVID-19. So far, the majority of people report that after a few weeks they feel back to their regular selves. A small number of people report months of feeling brain fog, lack of energy, persistent muscle aches and a general sense they are not back to normal. Many scientists are studying this around the world since it affects people in every country.
